So I been out getting the hang of my ace with the eq2 coil on it.  I notice that the depth reading is not as accurate as the
6x9 it'll show 6" on a dime thats 2-3" down, not a big deal.  Was getting what seemed like good repeatable signals on the twist off bottle caps found that if I moved the coil forward or back a few inches and swept again, the signal would change and start to jump between a quarter and a dollar.  Figured this out after digging a pile of caps.

I have to warn you that GTI detectors are always just making a best guess. If you fault a detector because it wrongly identifies a target you could be chucking the baby out with the bathwater. The Garrett detectors have always been top notch machines that require the operator to train him or herself to the machine. Passing on digging those items that seem to be rubbish means you will in fact be leaving good stuff for the next guy. Many of us here recommend searching in the all metal mode and digging it all. Every now and again, that pays off in something you would have given a miss if you believed your GTI.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Fordgalaxy, I have posted some info on my ACE 250 experiences with the new Detech 10x14 coil here:

Overall, I really like the coil. It took 3 outtings before I started to get the hang of the differences, so hang in there and use it. Is it better than the Garrett 9x12... yes and no.  I do like the DD sweep pattern over the concentric. I found more targets in an area I had carefully detected with the Garrett coil a week before. Depthwise, I see about 8-9 inches on full power and 7-8 inches on notch 6.

I do plan on keeping it. I was just pointing out something I thought others might find useful. The ball field I was hunting was extreamly littered with corona and bud light caps. I was running over several with each sweep. some would jump all over the place but others would hit a strong repeatable quarter from different angles and I dug them up. What I noticed was that by sweeping with the top or bottom 30% of the coil the most of the cap signals would either start to jump, or after giving a good quarter signal the display would finish in the scrimmed out iron. I was running 2-3 bars on the sens in coin mode.

I've got a nice collection of bottle caps from the beach so I know what you mean. I figured out that if a signal is jumping around and it jumps into the iron/foil area, it's usually junk. I dig it anyway, but I've never had a coin or a piece of silver or gold jump into the iron/foil area so far. Any reason you are only using 2-3 bars on the sens? You are probably only getting about 3-4 inches. This coil is way more sensitive to electrical interference than the Garrett coils.

I cut the sens to help cut the junk chatter down. Depends where I'm hunting. Today I was running about 5 bars, the ground is highly mineralized here. but I'm getting the hang of it.  There is so much crap in the soil here I should be using a small coil but I like the big one. So a little more time spent learning its querks is worth it to me. I like the nice narrow search area of the 10x14 coil you can pretty much pinpoint a 2"x2" square without haveing to use pinpoint mode. The only real draw back I've found is on the shallow aluminum it will sound off like a slot machine bell it dings once as the rim passes over once or twice when the center passes and again when the other rim passes. I'm having fun and finding stuff though.

I just figured out something with the coil today... turn your cell phone off when using it. My RAZR interferes with this coil and makes it go ape $hit  Crazy every few minutes. After I turned it off, it was smooth all day.
