ghost town of Farrell idaho

(1/1)

rrtrooper68:
While researching the great fire of 1910 that affected Washington, idaho and montana, I had mentioned it to a friend of mine who lives near the st joe river. He gave me information about a town named Farrell idaho. That no longer is there partly because of the fire.his friend is the property  owner.we talked to the guy and got permission to metal detect on the town site. I tried to find  out more iformation about the town online and didn't have any luck. The fire itself is very well-known  but all I could find out about the town was there are a few pics of the hotel and that's about it. If I were looking for a town map where would I find somthing like that if someone could answer this for me I would be very great full. Thanks

Your county assessor's office might have old plat maps available of Farrell.  Another source might be older U.S. geological Survey maps that might show the site - look for the oldest you can find.   Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I was able to go to the county assessor and got the map.
This town is huge and not one building left standing anywhere.  I've been told as many as 5000 people lived there at one time.
But what little info I can find says approximately 2500. I believe it was a poverty struck community due to at least 3 major events.
The first being a fire in 1910 second was the railroad decided not to pass the town and the 3 was repeated flooding. I have detected it this week
And half the field is flooded. For the life of me I can't figure out why they would build a town that size in that field.

Glad you got the map, rrtrooper68!  Thanks for filling me in on your hunt.. really appreciate it.  No telling why the town was built there without more information about it. like. was it a gold or silver mining town, was it a timber town or whatever?  Good luck hunting there.  Let us know what kinds of things you find!    [great]
