Ghosttowns.com is a JOKE! Not only do they not list three ghost towns that are common knowledge in my home county in Montana, the one they did list is a tourist trap with no authentic buildings on the edge of town! There are two authentic ghost towns within a twenty mile radius of this sham, and another with in thirty!

Did it ever occur to you that they are common knowledge BECAUSE of ghosttowns.com? Did you really expect a worldwide accessible site to have secret sites that only you will read about?

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

If you are using the internet for ghost town research what you find will be common knowledge. If you want to hunt towns that are not well known you will have to research old maps and state records to find forgotten towns. Yes there are still many out there but finding any with standing building and saloons with doors swinging are for the movies. Most buildings were gone long ago plus more then one old town never had buildings. Many a town was laid out and lots sold put on maps but no buildings ever built. Check and see if the town ever had a Post Office if it did chances are it did have some full time residents at one time.

Not to forget the mining towns that had huge populations-----with everything and everyone in tents.    Even with well known "successful" towns like Goldfield, Arizona and Kelly, New Mexico, most of the town was tents with only a small central core being more substantial.
