Hello All

The silver mining town of Bay Horse is nestled in a narrow canyon. Today, the town is on private property and it's not allowed to enter.

From the dirt road, you have a great view of the collapsed buildings.
Tim Cooper found rich ore up Bay Horse Creek in 1877. In 1880, a five stamp, water powered mill and a twenty-five ton smelter were built.

Six charcoal kilns were built. The operation of a smelter required that large amounts of charcoal be burned to produce the intense heat necessary to melt out the silver and lead.

Like most small mountain mining towns when the mines closed the town died.

Idaho should change it's name from the Gem State to the State Park State! In this case it's a good thing Wink
