Go Up Go Down

Well I have been doing a little research,  about a town know as Saluria or Saluria Bayou.  Ive seen some old pictures of the townsite as well as Ive been to the ruins of the Coast Guard Station that used to be there.  Unfortunately I may be at a dead end with my research,  I haven't been able to find any old maps of the town to figure out street layouts,  or were stores or houses may have once been.  It also appears that from the aerial photos Ive found of the Island Im not even sure if it would be worth trying to metal detect there anymore since there is so many cuts thru the island with water flowing thru it and occasionally depending on the tide over it.  Ah well I guess this is kind of a rant since I was doing research and it now appears it was for not,  But I will still continue to find maps of street layouts so that maybe I can get lucky enuff to find a few difinitive places to search.

Yeah Im just not even sure were to start looking.  I did find one map that showed the town site but could not make anything out it was a poor quality scan of the area.  But what little I could make out looks like the town was concentrated on the north end toward the coast guard station ruins.

Would that be the High Ground you see in the photo?

I assume those water ways were roads at one time.

Buildings on the corners?

if you look at the upper right in the google image,  you will see a white rectangle that is the ruins of the old coast guard station.  Im trying to find the map I found earlier again so that I can possibly try to do an overlay on google earth with it.  Even though it just showed a couple rectangles on the map it might help me.  I really wish I could Metal detect over on Matagorda Island especially at the breast works from the civil war battle over there.  I believe Fort Esperanza was there.  But alas that is National park land now so no metal detecting.

I've just been looking for some photos of the Coast Guard stations and boy, nothing not a thing is showing up.

Most military facilities have something some place.

Yea, Boots on the ground may be your only option here.    Is that part of the Wildlife reserve they talk about with the Fort?

That could mess ya up.

yeah the fort is on the national wild life refuge so no joy there unfortunately,  But I may have to just go mess around one day this winter or possibly summer.  Just to see if I can find anything in the Saluria area.
