I had a hiking model with 600 waypoints that can be marked. I lost it to my daughter's fiance who still uses it. They're fairly cheap and he asked me how I liked mine. Since I didn't use it much in the bush, I gave it to him. This link is a similar model with more features. Free postage makes it very attractive and even at $123.00, if it saves your bacon once, it's worth every penny. Trust the machine but always carry a compass just in case. It also has only 4 waypoints, which is adequate for most of the time. Even though mine had a 600 waypoint database, I never used more than one or two.

This one has a datalogger of unknown size but that indicates it has more than 4 waypoint capability.

I haven't played with this one but it looks mighty convenient and would do the job just fine with an old fashioned notebook to record the waypoints.

This one looks good, too. Again, you'd need a notepad.

This should get you started. Don't be tempted to get one that has maps to use in the field. Off the battery charger, they last about an hour and won't give you enough information when not on a road. They don't tell you which direction to walk, just which road to get on.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
