Yes Cornelius, a Geiger Counter. I bought new batteries for it one time just to hear it click, about 80$. The thing is built really well and could probably still be used in the field. A collectors item more than anything.

I had one just like it  ORO.    Lost it at a garage sale in California while I was not at home . The wife did not know what it was !   I liked it , just for having it . Oh well it was a long time ago !    Cornelius

Excellent posting . I remember tearing one apart , it was tube type and had a probe which could be triggered by the phosphorus from most wrist-watches. The circuit had a sensitive  Geiger-muller or "GM" cathode gas filled tube , a very cool device . Wow!
I actualy have a geiger counter thats still in orig box  comes with personal pocket detectors also Never used
Can it be used for detecting ?
as I said never used
