I'm new to GEO caching and I have a garmin model 12 gps. Is this good enought to hunt with or should I get a better model?

 [detecting]Can anyone tell me if there are any places near Portland Oregon that would be good for panning gold? I just started and could use a little help in narrowing down the search a little. I'm not looking for someone to give up the mother load, just a few ideas on where I could start. Thanks

I think your Garmin is just fine for your purpose. No need to buy a different model.

I have the same GPS, used to use when balloon retrieving about 14 years ago. The only downside is its time to acquire a fix when first turned on, I always put it on a bit earlier than I need it. Also, don't use rechargeable batteries, as in mine it tends to have full battery and then suddenly switches off  Shocked I like its ability to output co-ordinates in lots of different units/systems.
