New GPS

(1/1)

Ridge Runner:
About 6 years ago I had my back pack stolen while I was detecting and in it was my back up Garmin Etrex GPS, I have software on my phones and tablet etc and I also have a street pilot III and a Garmin GPS 76, which at the time cost me about $450 USD, So I decided to find another Back up and I found this "NEW" Garmin GPS 72 for £88.00 / $107.36 USD which is an absolute steal at that price, So I am glad about that. The add below is not the people where I got mine but it just to give folks an Idea what I am talking about.

The New GPS are cool for sure.   I'm still milking my ol Magellan 2000 for what it's  worth.  Gives me locations, Way Points and one plotted path.  All I would ever use.  I still like and use paper maps.   I find them Easier to use.

The 2000 was the first one I ever owned too, At the time I did not understand them so I took it back to the shop and bought the Garmin GPS 12 because it was easier to understand but the 2000 is a great GPS,

This one I have just bought came out about 14 years ago but because they have quite a big screen they are still popular with us FOG's, lol.

Yep as far as map work goes they pretty much suck because your tunnel visioned.  You only see a little bit.  Paper maps you can see anything on the map and it sure makes life better.

I think they are amazing gadgets and they can be accurate to within 3 feet on a good day,  my tablet pc is good for maps and google earth etc which is a great help, When you use them both together they become a powerful tool.
