"Anyone who comes to a public forum asking for help in selling gold is up to no good in my opinion..."
OK sorry if I wasn't clear. The only help I'm looking for is advice. I'm not asking for anyone's money, or looking for buyers on this website. I promised my friend I would help him so that he is not cheated. For instance, the price he was given by one potential buyer was 45 Kina an ounce. When I showed him the price of gold on the Net he felt ashamed at having sold some so cheaply.
You need to understand that the people here are very poor, and unfamiliar with the much of the ways of the West. Many live a subsistence life and very few ever leave their villages for very long. My friend lives in a house built from bush materials and a tin roof. I'm trusted because of my reputation and the nature of my work here. And to be honest I would like to see them get rid of the gold before someone hikes in here and steals it from them, or worse.
What I would like to know is,
1. Without arousing suspician, how can I find out what the laws are for "found" gold? Can it be legaly sold and taken across National borders?
2. If this really is Japanese gold from the war, would the Japanese still have a claim to it?
3. Could it fetch a higher price because of the story that goes with it? What I mean is, should we keep the bars as they are, or try to remove the markings or cut them into smaller pieces?
Again, any help is appreciated.

Hey , Middleman
Okay . Maybe I should apologize for the previous post.Sounded super suspicious.Sorry. If you have these gold bars, you can be sure that someone is going to lay claim to them! My advise to you is find someone who can cut this stuff down to 18carat, and then sell small bits of it of as scrap gold.
You are going to get in trouble selling unregistered fine gold.
Maybe I should come around for coffee and a chat...........
Kind regards
Viking

My friend, I think it's best that you try and see this issue from a different angle...ours. No pictures, no proof except your word and a story fit for Harrison Ford.
I have a contact for you in Kokopo, if you want to take that chance. I can give you an email address and phone number. Just one thing, screw this chap and it won't have a happy ending. His name is Akuila and is a 'cocoa farmer'.
