Go Up Go Down

This is what happens when some Honey Bee's decide to Open a can of WOOOOOOP Azz on you!

This is my son two days ago.

He is back in school today.

Had to take him to the VET  (Veterinarian)  our local doctor.  Got two shots of Benadryl in the butt.

Africanized Bee's are here in New Mexico.

He was at a friend's house and just walked by the eves of the house that they had set as a hive.

They Go for the Eyes and Face.

He got Nailed below both eyes and the fore head.

Them little Critters Pack a Punch!

Hello Tell your son that a man from Scarborough in England sends his best wishes and hopes that he will soon be well. Must have been a nasty experience for him. I know as I was attacked by a swarm of wasps when I was about 14, not and experience I would like to repeat.

The wife is talking to the VET about a Auto Injector for bee stings for him.

It's obvious he is allergic to stings.

It took three days for his eyse to open back up.

Yip been there done that. Hurts like hell and then the swelling starts to itch!
Not a pleasant experience. I was attacked AGAIN metal detecting a little while back . The best thing to do if they're after you is run through bushes. They can't follow and you can lose them very quickly .They just carry on buzzing around the bush.
Our African bees are pretty aggressive .It doesn't take much to get them going. I would definitely get your son a anti histamine to carry with him. that looks like a nasty allergic reaction. He did get hit 3 times though. That's a lot of poison in such a small face.
Give him my best wishes will ya! Cry

Homefire, tell your son an old guy in Australia sends him best wishes for recovery. Several US states have authorized pharmacies to give out atropine pens if you walk in and tell them you are a bee sting victim. Check your local pharmacy and see. Most restaurants now keep them in the first aid box for anyone who has a peanut (or other nut) allergy.

Go Up Go Down

After a hornet experience I had,  I started wearing a head net on my Indiana Jones type hat.  Well a few years went by then one day I was in a small canyon looking for treasure.  Thousands of little insects came at me with a vengence.  I got the head net on just in time, then the little buggars were all over my hands.  I put my net gloves on and squished 'em but good.  They were all over me so I left that area pronto and after only a hundred yards away they went back to their roost area and left me alone.  Now I always go with my head net and gloves.  I guess I just stumbled into their reproductive area by mistake.  One more story before I go.  Once I had a brand new big bar of Lava soap sitting on the tail gate of my pick up truck.  Well along comes a Triantula Hawk insect and lites on the soap.  That insect was so huge he covered that bar completely.  I backed up and gave the King of Insects lots of room, what ever he wanted he was welcome to it.  Now I have seen these critters off and on for years and they usually only get an inch or two long.  This one was about 4 to 5 inches long and these guys can sting you over and over again.  They are black and blue in color and they twitch faster than a speeding bullet.  I never heard of someone getting stung but if they wanted to they could really put the whammy on a person.  Insect head nets and gloves are cheap insurance now days I think.

Go Up Go Down

I'm highly allergic to yellow jackets.  Other types of wasps, hornets and bees don't bother me other than the pinch and localized swelling if I get stung, but a single yellow jacket sting will send me into anaphlactic shock within a matter of minutes.  As a result I keep benedryl and an epipen (epinephren auto injector) in close proximity to me whenever I'm out and about.  I will tell you though... those autoinjectors HURT.  They hurt much worse than the bee sting itself does.  You get over the pain of the bee sting in an hour or two, but you walk around feeling like a horse kicked you in the thigh for a week after you slap yourself with that autoinjector.  They have wicked nasty thick needles on them, and punch about 5ml of liquid into the muscle almost instantly, tearing the muscle tissue because it goes in so fast.  Only about .3mg of that is epinephrine, so why they need such a big needle and so much delivery fluid is beyond me.  Perhaps it's because they're trying to avoid people abusing them to get high... and if that's the case it certainly is a good deterent.

Sorry to hear the little fellow got popped, but if he didn't show any signs of anaflaxis, he probably won't need an autoinjector.  Swelling is common around the sting sites.  It's the allergic reaction which is indicated by the throat closing up, lymph nodes under the armpits swelling, etc. that indicate the need for an autoinjector.  Unless he shows those types of reactions, an autoinjector won't do him any good anyway, as it won't take care of the localized swelling from the sting.  It only helps with an anaphlactic reaction, and it'll certainly make him howl a lot more than the bee stings did.
