I dont know if its gold or not. The indentations make me think its gold plated. Found it at the entrance to a trail off the parking lot at the state park. I also found that chunk of (?). I don't know what that is.

having taken a quick look its a copper ring that was originally plated the platings worn off and around the edges you can see the tell tale copper. Rings like this are often found in tot lots, playgrounds and even parks.  The good stuffs usually lost on beaches hehe however its a nice find and makes your day so that next time you might get lucky and get a glimpse of the real stuff.. keep it up

BTW: Is it not against the law to hunt "MD" or otherwise in a "State Park"

It depends on the state. In some, it is against the law.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

and to make it even more complicated, some states will allow you to MD in some state parks (typically beach parks) but not in other state parks (particularly if the state park has historical significance).....likewise, when it comes to federal land, a lot depends upon the agency that administers the land and what you are recovering.   ALWAYS check the laws applicable to the area you plan to search.

Rules & Regulations

Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission regulations adopted 9-9-96, governing the health, safety and protection of persons and property within state parks, historical parks, scientific areas or forts, including encompassed waters, administered by the Parks and Wildlife Department and selected legislative enactments governing the use of state parks.

Metal detector. It is an offense for any person to operate or use a metal detector, except as authorized by permit.

It's a no no in Texas and they will take your detector and write you a very nice 325 dollar ticket.
You could get a permit at the Galveston ST Park till 2005 but no longer.

Keith Wills has been working deligently to over turn some of these "Regulations" but has had little success.
That Guy is one hard nose MD"er". Do you know him Seldom?
He owns and operates East Texas Metal detectors and supplies.
I am a member of WWATS Dallas Chapter. Keith is the president and founder.
Anyone would be in the better if they were to talk to that guy!!!!!!!

I once asked and obtained permission to hunt a section of beach along the Corpus Cristi area but only found some clad coins.... It was fun answering all the obvious questions that enevitably come to you when the beach is full of tourists.

State Parks here in Texas still a NO NO
