The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency confirms the Northwest Conspiracy of the Knights of the Golden Circle on their official website.  For a more detailed account, I highly recommend "Confederate Agent" by James D. Horan, 1954, who was the first person allowed access to the government files on the KGC after they had been sealed for nearly 90 years.

Nobody is really denying the existence or the political platform of the Knights of the Golden Circle during the 1850s through the early 1860s.

What is debatable, and the purpose of this sub-section...is if they squirreled away tons and tons of gold and silver, to use at a later date.

The CIA "historical document" does not validate, nor does it lend credence to the legend.

Nobody before 1940 referred to it as such either. Sounds like the author was charmed by that red Circle K logo on the convenience stores in the south east of the US and made up a legend around them. There's much truth to the Confederate gold stolen from the southern gentry to finance the war and much truth to the gold being hidden in some instances but there certainly never was an organization like the alleged Knights of the Golden Circle rich enough to hide anything except a few things that might identify them as American traitors - which is what they were.

This topic has been a HUGE topic for many throughout the years.  This has to be one of the most contreversal and debated topics in treasure hunting today.  It's just so complex and covers so much.

Hi Justin.  It definitely is the hottest topic in treasure hunting today.  At our Yahoo group, we have been studying the Knights of the Golden Circle for nearly 5 years now and we've only scratched the surface.  It's easy to be a naysayer but once a person really begins to study the KGC with an open mind, like you apparently are, they realize that there are no easy answers to this complex and highly secretive organization.

It is easy to be a naysayer to mainstream history, and make extraordinary claims about fabulous fame and fortune without validation.

Isn't it?

"The Truth About Jesse James" by Rudy Turilli, published in 1967.  This book is full of information about Jesse W. James including notarized sworn affidavits by men who knew him best during his outlaw days.
