RO, rather than displaying bad manners in my reply, I was actually just calling it as I see it.  After reading your reply, I stand by my belief that you did not pay attention if you even watched Jesse James Hidden Treasure.  The crude gold bar was in fact underneath the trunk of the tree and I saw no reason to play word games.  What you claim was "suspiciously soft soil" was sandy soil and most sand is "soft".  But you never explained how the thick roots miraculously appeared above the jar of coins that you claimed were "planted".  Nor have you yet given a single legitimate source who shares your mistaken notion that John Surratt's Diary was a work of fiction.  So, I will not even attempt to get into an "intelligent discussion" with you.  It is clear that your main intent in posting in this subforum is to cause trouble and I will not allow that to happen just as I do not allow such foolishness to go on in my own Bloody Bill Anderson Mystery group.  We are here to have fun and enjoy the hobby of treasure hunting, not to debate manners or to make personal attacks so I will delete any future negative messages from you, RO, that are not in the spirit of sharing something constructive with other members of this excellent website.

Foolishness?

There is nothing in academia or scholarly publications that support your theory. There are no peer-reviews supporting the novels you referring too as being historically correct. Rather than trying to get me to prove a negative...hows about you supplying some reliable references stating these novels are backed by any scholarly fashions?

Rational Observer, you might want to go back and read what Jay has posted befor a few messages back, the Library of Congress, two publishers, and the editor himself designate the book as non fiction. And yet you  can find noone, who supports your allegation that it's "Probably Fictitious" except for your own doctored Open Library Web Page. It seems to me that the burden of proof is on you and not on Jay.

In reference to Knights of the Golden Circle.  I picked up a book called "Rebel Gold" at Books-A-Mil. It is written by Warren Gelter & Bob Brewer.  I found it to be very informative on this subject.  An interesting note is a lot of the places where they think there is Rebel Gold are now State or National Park areas and no metal detecting is allowed.  The book list locations, markers, signs and confrontations.

I must have missed the link, source or other reliable reference stating the publisher(s) and/or author "designated" the book as non-fiction.

In regards to the Open Library, I did not realize it was a self edit scenario. My error. Your accusations of me "doctoring" the Open Library page is uncalled for.

Welcome to this subforum, Cessna.  Reading "Rebel Gold" was what really got me started on my 5 year study of the Knights of the Golden Circle.  When anyone ever asks me how they can learn about the KGC, the first thing I tell them is to read this well-documented book.  You and other members may want to read the extensive bibliography in "Rebel Gold" because it is full of other excellent books and sources about the KGC.

RO, give us the link to that quoted page and we can let you know whether or not it is able to be "doctored" as the Open Library page was.  I'd also like to ask you why you choose this subforum to attempt to discredit every source of information that is provided on the KGC?  Why don't you give us a break from your harassment and go to another forum and call other treasure hunters liars, cheats, and profiteers as you so readily accuse us of being.  See how far your "free speech" gets you there.
GoldDigger:  Christian and I had a very good discussion about this site's free speech policy and the Moderator's duties to delete or edit any message he/she found objectionable before he offered me the Moderator position here and before I accepted it so if you have a problem with the way I manage this subforum, I suggest you bring it up with Christian and stop badgering me about it.

The full record in the Library of Congress has the same information. The search sessions are timed out, so no link. However, you can do a basic search and find the novel

When one follows the loc.gov link you provided, it does contain the note: "Probably fictitious" but does not give the identity of the person who wrote it or the reasons for making this claim so it really doesn't hold up to any credibility test as far as I am concerned.  We don't even know if that writer even read the book.  I have and I read it carefully and, like I said before, nothing in it indicates that it is anything other than a non-fiction, edited diary of John H. Surratt.
