I agree an excellent show will watch it again. There is nothing self serving about someone who is interested in a certain subject and does a show on it that has nothing to do with being self serving.

Go Up Go Down

In all accounts that we have come across the one thing has remained the same....the caliber of the gun has never changed.  It has always been reported as a 45 caliber colt with white pearl handles.  The one that Jesse himself bought and gave to Bob Ford as a gift.  As for theories, here is mine.  When opportunity knocks, take advantage of it.  Charlie Bigelow was Jesse's cousin, reportedly shot and killed by Bob Ford the second week in March 1881.  It is said that Bob drug Charlies body into the woods and buried his body with snow.  Still being cold outside this would per say preserve the body from decay.  Now in April of the same year, just a few weeks later, Jesse is reportedly shot in his own house by none other than Bob Ford.  So let's say that late that night they go out and Bob shows them where the body is and they bring it back to Jesse's house under the cover of dark.  They then dress him up to look like Jesse.  Charlie and Jesse were cousins so the familiarities would be present.  It is reported that they looked a lot alike.  Jesse then takes off, leaving Charlie and Bob Ford with the body of Charlie Bigelow.  This may explain why there was so little blood on the floor and none reported on the wall, just a bullet hole.  After all  Jesse had relatives help him out before why not now?  It was also reported that when Zerelda arrived to identify the body, her statement was said to be "that is not my son".  It was said that she was then taken into another room and upon her return she changed her mind and said that it was Jesse.  A mother of all people know their children.  For 15 years Frank and Jesse were untouchable, I don't believe that Jesse would let down his guard that easily and take off his guns, place them on the bed and turn his back on a man that was reported that he did not trust.  Why would Frank James not attend the funeral of his brother and why did Bob and Charlie Ford not get the "reward" of $10,000 from the Governor of Missouri as promised?  This leaves a ton of unanswered questions.  This is just a theory yet to be proven and will probably remain so for centuries to come.  As for Jesse being a "bad guy", take a look at his past and the events leading up to his Outlawry and killing.  At the age of 15 he is beaten in the fields of the family farm by Union soldiers looking for Frank and his whereabouts.  His step-father Dr. Samuels is hung repeatedly causing brain damage, the farm house is bombed thus killing his half-brother Archie and causing Zerelda to lose her arm.  They are not allowed to plant or sell crops taking from their income and means of general daily living.  These men are angry, their families are being attacked and they have been refused amnesty because they fought with Quantrill and Anderson.  The Civil War era was bad all the way around, for everyone.  They fought back the best they knew how.  Hats off to Jesse and Frank.

Thank You midnightmechanic! That was great information. I was going to bring up the fact that it was a 45 and its exit wound would have take off that half off his face but you are already on top of that. Thank you again for your great information. And yes it is still a theory but thats why we are all here and trying to discover the truth.

I saw that program. I think it was all done for showmanship. No substance.

I loved the history of Jesse James. There is enough to the show to keep you entertained, and I would have liked the show better without what I consider fake finds.  Here are the reasons I doubt the cache and the gold Dorry bar.
 Teach

1)        All the metal detectors looked brand new, and we're all Garrett.  How many experts can you get together, and all have the same detector?

2)         These guys were experts, but when it came to finding the cache of coins they did not have a pin pointer for the hole. ( risking damage just digging blind)

3) With all their marking and flagging and gridding of a search area, he sticks the detector in a hole and comes out with partially melted gold coins.  The logic from the show is someone was trying to make a Dorry bar to hide the gold.
Fact 1 If you look at a gold coin, you cannot tell it was stolen, so no reason to melt it down.
Fact 2  A  person from that time would know it would take 3000 degrees and special equipment to make a Dorry bar.
Fact 3  When they went over the bar with their metal detector at first they said it must be gold, the machine says so.
Fact 4   Did this guy know how to operate his ground penetrating radar?
Fact 5   At the end of the show he shows a large anomaly on his screen, but says the winters coming and maybe  we will       dig it next year. And what piece of equipment do you have there the big shovel.

Why uniforms badges and guns? OH Yeah All the secrecy of the KGC, and one little cache is found under 3 foot tall JJ letters carved into the wall 20 feet in the air for all to see?

Well this is a tough room, but at least we can argue my  facts by the numbers

Landshark - you have made some very valid points.  The detectors were all the same as you said, why not a variety?  Set up yeah!  That close to digging up a huge box filled with?Huh? and they close the show?  What's up with that.  Not enough to fill the box before hand?  LOL.  Just another theory.  And yeah what was up with the badges and uniforms....I can understand the guns as we ourselves have gone out with our metal detecting club and everyone is armed.  This is for protection against cougars, bears and snakes.  Our club is not only adults but children also.  We need to be able to protect them at all cost.  Just have to wait to see what they come up with for the next episode I guess.   :- Detecting

No, not that Jesse James. Along with Jesse James other members included Jefferson Davis, Bedford Forrest, and William Quantrill (leader of the Confederate guerilla outfit Quantrill?s Raiders, with whom James rode). Some believe the society was created by the notorious Albert Pike, the subject of many a Masonic conspiracy theory. The South did in fact have an extensive intelligence infrastructure and Albert Pike was a key figure in that intelligence network. The only real news here is the claim that Jesse James was a key figure within that intelligence community as well and of course, the business about The Knights of the Golden Circle.

The James Gang?s train and bank robberies, it is claimed, were fundraising operations to finance the activities of the Knights of the Golden Circle, as well as to wreak general havoc with the plans of the Northern reconstructionists. James is also said to have been involved in supplying weapons and training to the Plains Indians, as a means of waging proxy war against the Union Army.

The Knights of the Golden Circle was ?the most powerful subversive organization ever to operate within the United States.? (Getler & Brewer, op. cit.) First, they schemed to have Abraham Lincoln elected president, so as to inflame the South and cause secession. Later, their subordinate, John Wilkes Booth, assassinated Abraham Lincoln and with KGC assistance, Booth escaped. (what was behind that?) The KGC did not officially disband until 1908.

According to Norma Cox, in her book, The New Spoilers, she has the 12 charter members of the Golden Circle as including Jefferson Davis, Bedford Forrest, Jesse James, and William Quantrill. Some say Albert Pike was the creator of the Knights of the Golden Circle, but Cox doubts it. ?Important to remember about such secret organizations is the fact that only the men at the top know the truth??
Unfortunately for our tale, The Knights of the Golden Circle are linked to the infamous Ku Klux Klan, an organization responsible for many hateful acts over the years
