Go Up Go Down

I'm thinking of doing some detecting in the US this year and I'm wondering if anyone else has experience:
a) going between Canada and the US with a metal detector, and getting the detector through customs
b) hunting in another country (the US) on vacation
c) returning from said vacation with a pile of rings, coins, gold, etc, -- how do I return with it?

Cheers

As long as you obeyed any local laws, like possibly reporting to the police, ARGH! You should be OK. I would check/call? at the border crossing stations, both ways. You cannot hunt federal and some state, county or local lands so no other regulations are needed.

Pass Port in hand, come do your thing according to local law and have fun.

Put them in your pocket on the way home and only declare them if asked. Lips Sealed

Before you cross the border take your detector to your local Canada Border Crossing office and have them register the serial number. This way when you come back into Canada it will show that you had the detector when you crossed.

Everytime we cross into the U.S. we always stop by the CBSA office in Winnipeg and get them to record the serial number of what were taking with us. It sure stops playing 20 questions with the Canadian border crossing guards when were on our way home.
