Detecting is what I'd like to do here, but before I dig in and run into the  Police, I'd like to know if anyone has information on the laws here in Japan.  If anyone is local, that knows the laws, that would be awesome for their input.

Thanks in advance,
-Metal Cki

Seems to be some interest in this area.  I've got a lady I work with that is going to ask her JP friend.  Unfortunately, in Japan, it is not often easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

patience, Metal Cki.   I know that we have members in Japan who post here.   One of them should be along shortly.

Look in Legal issues and Law!

I know we have some info on Japan.

I know that by law your suppose to turn in Lost Valuable Items to the local police and wait for a period before it's returned. Just use the search button TOP RIGHT and ask Japan, Law!

From Multiple Sources: "If it's of any value, turn it in to the authorities.  If it's not claimed within 6 months, it's yours to keep.  If it's anything of historical value, turn it in immediately.  If you get caught with it...rice and water in a Japanese prison."

I am in Okinawa Japan and I have heard you must turn in finds to local police and then they will release back to you if unclaimed. Due to my lack of understanding of the Okinawan dialect i have not heard the law from someone in the Okinawan law field....still dont know the legalities of hunting here in Okinawa. I do live on a military base. I have spoken with Security Forces as well as my legal office. I was told that it is OK to MD on my base by both parties. They did recommend that if I find an item of historical value that i should turn it in to Security forces or notify the base historian. Not much help but it is all i know right now!
