In Ontario, they have laws that say, unless you got a prospecting license, you can't sell your find. Ouch!

That means that if you are a hobbyist, then you can trade and show your stuff. But can't sell. Why get it in the first place?

A prospecting license will cost around $100 or more and it seems to have a time limit and location specific. Ouch again.

I think there must be a lot of stuff to be found for them to make the laws like that.

Funny, in BC, British Columbia Canada, the laws aren't as strict. Why the difference? Hate the politics.

I suppose you could probably bring it down here and sell it, but they probably have laws against that too (although if you brought it down to show it a a mineral show and sold it......)

Are you serious, cross border shopping / selling? Wow, I would think that it for sure is illegal. And not to mention dangerous. For the US has laws that lock you up longer than your lifetime (150+ year sentence) that's insane. Staying well away from that danger for sure.

Some guy in Canada was selling seeds (maryjane kind) and the US got to extradite him over it and got a 5 year sentence. In Canada it was not illegal and he even had permits. But somehow, the US got to step all over him while he was in another country (sounds like a familiar tactic - Iraq anyone). That's insane.  Fight

Ok, I have for rent one camouflage blanket and a red lens flashlight for you guys who want to smelt. Just stick your head out from under the covers every so often to get a good breath of air. But for you bad people shaving coins or painting coins, or you really bad Canadians who don't have your shots, I mean your license, permits, what ever it is, you better get right. Im taking notes so everybody quit talking so fast.

Seriously, copyright is important, but are we really applying laws from another area to what we think it is. I haven't seen any gold melting or coin shaving police, but again I keep things simple and do things right. I would like to think we all on here are that way. That goes for you Canadians too. smiles.

As a member of ART, I make it my personal responsibility to melt every pull tab I find that escapes the recycle barrel. So should I expect a visit from coke a cola?

I think it safe to say that most people are for proper metal detecting - with respect to the land and laws. However, sometimes I am amazed that some objects like arrow heads are illegal to pick up.

What purpose would such a law be in place for anyway? Is it to prevent every tom dick or harry from digging up the communities or is it that some archaeologist is getting miffed that he did not find it and now is not going to get his reward or plaque on his wall?

Gold has Value.

I can do What Ever, When Ever I want with my Gold.

If I want to Melt it down, I will.

If I want to make a Ring out of it , I Will.

If I want to make Corn Flakes out of it , I Will!

The Tax man only has access to it if I convert it into the Dollars.

There are a whole pile of things worth more then the $   !    LOL!

If you think its illegal then dont do it...or you can do whatever you want with your finds & keep it to yourself but at your own risk. You may be held liable by government if they find out...not for now but maybe later.
