I can't believe these commissioners made a drastic decision based on a ludricous claim.

It's time to take your state senator or representative to lunch and have a quiet, intelligent chat. It has been known to work.

Seldom, I think that we must begin resolving this issue with education. Metal dectectors manufacturers and or sellers should be encouraged to include the code of ethics in their packaging and or include a booklet or DVD on proper MD procedures.

Cyber I think most manufacturers include a copy of the code with new detectors. Its the same old problem You can lead a horse to water but you know. The folks that cause us the problems fall into two groups 1 the guy that got a 100 buck detector as a gift goes out for a few hours and digs 100's of holes. He doesn't read the treasure mag's or books he doesn't join the forum to learn what is expected from us he just goes and dig's. The second bunch are the looters who trespass onto sites that we are barred from sometimes with heavy equipment doing 1000's of dollars in damage, their the ones that get the arkies  on our butts.
Somehow we are going to have to police our self or all public lands will be closed to detecting

I have never seen a metal detector manual that the last pages did not contain the Code of Ethics.

These Stupid TV shows are bringing the Get Rich Quick bunch out of the wood piles.

They buy a Wally World detector thinking Eawwwwww This is Gravy and tear up the hill sides clueless on what there doing or even what the Laws are.

Two Months later after they broke a sweat (MORE WORK THEN ANTICIPATED) the detectors shine has worn off and the Damage is done.

And then we get to buy them at garage and estate sales for peanuts. The holes remain empty as a blight upon the land they trod.

You guys are correct, good ethics need to be applied by all Detectorist, it's also nothing they shouldn't know inside themselves as it is, its just common decency & common sense, but then again there are always a few who ruin it for many...

No wonder indeed, a few unscrupulous eBay buyers in Italy have caused so much grief for sellers, that hardly no one wants to sell or ship items there anylonger, a classic case of a few doing damage to the whole group, just in another way.

 Great
Jim

That is so true man. It happens in all areas of life.  Undecided  This is like everything else. An example are guns. Guns are for many good uses or for personal safety, enforcing laws, etc., but look at how many commit crimes with guns on a daily basis.  Sad Should guns be banned? Of course not. One cannot find a single area of life wherein people make wrong decisions without measuring the consequences. And like for everything else, the good detectorist deserves a chance to prove that we are not like the bad guys. That we care and can help make this happens.  Undecided

They will come out with half truths or even full lies, to enact bans when it suites them IMO.

Many times, they know that somethings there to find, so they block us from finding it....

Cheers,
Jim

Heck Jim you almost sound like one of them conspiracy nuts LOL just kidding I know what your saying but in my opinion we are pointing the finger at the wrong people. Yes the politicians are making the rules but they are doing so based on info supplied by the archeologist. historians and special interest groups. Our side have never been organized to a point where we can put up a good fight at a state or federal level. Some groups have done a good job at a local level but thats about all. Until a group is set up and have the funds fight the special interest groups we will end up with the short end of the stick.

I just laugh anymore. Think of all the money the local economy is loosing, park fees, cost me $100 bucks a day when I go to these parks. Their loss. Unfortunately the rules are getting worse and not protecting the resource. We as law abiding citizens do our part. But there is many people using the same resources for bad things without consequences.

The crooks and criminals really have taken over.

LOL,

ha, I'll give you that Seldom!  Grin

Yes it's always second thoughts after my initial thoughts. Just with so much abuse from "Big Daddy" running the show these days, sometimes I think there up to something by banning the hobby from specific areas for some hidden reasons. I just see so much ripping off of the American working man & family that it sickens me & the tax dollars being waisted in many ways and at the same time saying there broke & have to shut the parks & beaches down.

Heck yea, what you said does make sense and very well could be the real case mate!

Cheers,  Wink
Jim
