We probably should copy them to the individual state also and sticky them there for quick reference.  That way they'll be easy to find whether the member thinks "legal" or thinks "state"

is a pretty good link for city codes with in the different states. Since some of the metal detecting may be in city parks.

Hey homefire, decided to go to Lake Lavon near Garland, Tx and metal detect around swimming holes and looked up rules. US army corp of engineers have rules at park for metal detecting. The gist of it is:
1. Need permit ( i think free, it didn't say in the article, but, that's no guarantee)
2.  allowed at designated swim beaches that do not contain or would not reasonably be expected to contain archeological, historical, or paleonotological resources.
3. 1 one-handed scoop
4. Must surrender (for them to find owners or sell usually after 90 days and put money in US Treasury as miscellaneous cash) any thing worth more than $25 including rings and watches, and any archeological, historical, or paleonotological items. Here link to the whole thing. The fourth item is for metal detecting in general the first is detail on how they steal, I mean take care of the "lost, found, and abandoned" items.

You guys need to read the CFR and the policy document more carefully. Nothing new there and no surprises. Please refrain from starting a war over nothing.

Hmmm, GoldDigger1950, whatever do you mean? I read it again and it seems pretty much as I presented. They will take efforts to find the owner, but, how are they going to find the owner of watches and rings and if they do we can't have them. In no event, that I could ascertain, do we get anything over $25 value. But, I am getting old and senile, so, I could have missed something. Smiley
