One day, probably 40 years ago, my family was in the Petrified Forest and one of my children picked up a speck of rock, looked at it and pocketed it. We got stopped and searched, grilled for quite a while until my son coughed it up. Even back then they had security cameras watching everyone. I didn't even give him a cross look. I told him that taking a rock from this earth is not a crime no matter what the park rangers said. But I did tell him not to do it again just avoid confrontation.

Im not advising for anyone to break the law - but - I'm pretty sure that law, if it was taken to the supreme court, would be found unconstitutional. Blm likes to say they are the owners of the land, but they are not - they are stewards of OUR land. We need to stop following unconstitutional laws blindly, and saying, oh well. BLM - owns NOTHING

That statement is WAY too true. Since "Meteorite Men" came out, it is almost impossible to get your meteorites authenticated, because the universities, and certified techs are overwhelmed with rocks that are NOT meteorites. To avoid possible lawsuits, they are turning down almost all testing, and hiring special people to pre-screen specimens.
