have a question regarding some old family land

really wanting to hit some old family land that has changed hands over the years.

mom swears the family buried a lot of 'treasures' on their properties during the civil war era...really not caring much what the items are worth, because they would be priceless to me and the family no matter what they may be.

i would guess the logical way to approach it would be to ask the current owners permission to search the property, but if its shot down, is there any way to get access legally?

i realize it would be hard to gain any traction with no evidence outside of family history...it is in Arkansas, if that helps any

would appreciate any thoughts you may have, based on experience or just ideas in general.

thanks!

get to know the owners on a personal level, are they older folks?if so a couple of chores might help ya...........if not ya got 3 choices, 1)nighthawking which is a big no no(how would you feel if somebody did that on yer land)  2)keep trying over and over, promise you'll show 'um everything you dig, maybe you'll pull some family heirloom that was lost and that might get them pumped up  3)just dream about what you'll never pull out of that ground.................good luck and don't give up

remember that you don't have to show "everything"to them tho............lets say you found a cache of coins or gold of some kind, you show that to them and i'm pretty sure you'll be out of there in a heartbeat and they'll be getting their own md.complete honesty isn't always the right thing Cool

I'd suggest working the angle that you'd like to search for relics associated with your family's time on the property that you can pass on to the younger members of the family.

(and if you do find some old tools, or costume jewelry you can make sure you show them those items while keeping all but a handfull of common coins to yourself)
