Peru has cracked down on treasure hunting in their country by non natives. Over the last 100 years 1000's of artifacts have been found and sold on the black market many gold ones have been melted down and sold just for the gold.
If you get the permits make sure you list all equipment you intent to take with you and carry recites showing it was bought in the states and plan on bringing it all back most south American frond on selling equipment to natives without permits.
With the crack down on treasure hunting and grave robbing a new cottage industry of fakes and forgery's is running ramped all over SA so be careful of buying questionable artifacts.
Good Luck
