Tom, are you CRAZY? it is the rule of the thumb FINDERS KEEPER. do not complicate matters and put yourself in a bad position the next thing you know you are six feet under ground (unless they bury you alive) or end up nothing.
If you are a treasure Hunter or even not, just an ordinary guy who stumbled accidentally and found Gold bars or gold coins, diamond etc. would you reveal this to your government? To even to your neighbor or friends? There are a lot of things you can do to trade it secretly and slowly for your own security and future.

If the argument is who will you be better off? Federal or State. In reality you can't escape both. Federal will come after you and same way with the State. You will be imposed on both as Federal Income Tax and State Tax. like winning in a lottery, at the end of the year you will have to declare it as income tax no matter how you acquired it.

If it was movable, I would just bring it home!

Sell it as you can and declare Taxes Due! as a self employed person.

Salvage is the Business Name.

Hello Tom,

this depends very much on the country / state in question as they all have different laws. Well it is custom practice amongst many hunters that they would say to have found the treasure in teh state with the most benefital laws for them  Wink

Regards,

Christian

Depending on what is, there are alot of ways that you can sell different items.  Take eBay, you can pretty much sell anything on that site.  There is also Craigslist and Local Auction Houses.  If you could be a little more specific on the item I could give you some tips on resale. Shawn

Well, the treasure Im after could be gold bars or gold coins. I believe it to be an old stage robbery and could be both. It could even have silver coins too, which could be easy to resell. But for some reason I think a gold bar or two would be very hard to exchange in BC or US.

2nd Treasure is gold bars pack mules, so either bars or dust, I guess.
