For what is worth, I would still request a copy of the Maryville, TN ordinances (although I might wait a few weeks  Smiley ).
It is entirely possible that the ordinances do NOT ban metal detectors, but are being interpreted in such a way that the "safe" answer is to say they do.   For instance, a lot of bureaucrats will interpret "no one shall dig or remove" as banning metal detectors (and it is hard to get around that one because few people are really good at recovering without leaving a sign that you dug).  If Metal Detecting is not specifically banned, the possibility exists that you can eventually to educate those who interpret the ordinances so they know that responsible metal detecting does not cause the problems the ordinance was put in place to prevent..   Which in turn could lead to you being able to hunt there in the future.   (of course it could also have the other effect and have them add very clear wording banning metal detectors).

YEP!   If it's not in writing it's not law!

Why Do you all seem to think you need Permission to work Public Property?

until someone says No and you  Challenge it there is no Law!

Your making your own problems here.

Were talking Public Property here. NOT Private.

Homie, if you try that and it IS in writing, ignorance of the law is NOT going to protect you from receiving the full penalty of the law.

That is why you look and see what is Law.  Nothing in Writing, it's not there.

Is it Law or is someone Presuming it's Law? Cool

Good advice, Guys.
My main concern is
1. Having my machine confiscated.
2. Hit with a fine
A lot on the line just to find a few coins.
I go to private property if I'm looking for artifacts and public property just to "learn" my machine

TVA requires. A permit
all other federal lands in Tennessee is not allowed.
Most city park's are a no also.
Best to hunt pvt. Property.

TVA has not issued a permit for the last 3 years. I have been trying to get one. They told me that they are not issuing them and have no intentions of doing so in the forseeable future.

Here is the copy and paste for the info.
TVA Cultural Resources
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cultural resource?
It’s a location where human activity, occupation, or use has taken place in the past. Cultural resources are identified through field surveys, historical documents, or oral evidence, and they include archaeological sites, historic sites like battlefields, historic structures, and historic items such as the Liberty Bell.
What is archaeology?
Archaeology is the scientific study of past human cultures through analysis of the material remains that people in the past have left behind.
Am I allowed to collect artifacts or relics from TVA land?
The Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 (ARPA) makes it illegal to excavate archaeological sites on federal property, which includes TVA land, without a research permit. Although there are no penalties under this act for removing arrowheads that you find on the ground, these artifacts are still considered federal property and you can be charged with Theft of Government Property if found to be in possession of artifacts taken from TVA property. It’s important to understand that artifacts by themselves do not tell us anything about people of the past. We need to know the context of the artifact—where it was found, for example, and what other items were near it—in order for it all to make sense. If you have discovered something that may be an artifact, the best thing to do is leave it in place.
Am I allowed to use a metal detector on TVA land?
The use of metal detectors on TVA property is prohibited.
