UK beaches and the Crown Estate - legal ownership

(1/1)

Treasure4all:
According to parliament, the Crown Estate 'own' something like 55% of the UK's coastline beaches. The remaining beaches have been leased and sold by the Crown Estate. So my question is, does anyone know when the Crown Estate began selling off its beaches? Is this even legal? We live in a democracy, don't we. How can not one jot of beach belong collectively to the public? We the public, can take responsibility and control of the UK coastline, it's not difficult. So this would mean that the National Trust and local authorities acquired beaches from the Crown Estate.

Thanks for the links. The Independent article was what drove me to posting a new thread on the subject. We live under elitist rule and power, I do believe that now. The trouble is the population are not aware of all this, of what is going on around them, some do and there is a slow awakening, and it is slow! I do think the people should claim its beaches back, it's a fundamental thing, the beaches are for ALL. Of course we need to protect certain things and places, I agree, but it's gone way over the top. Those in power want to stop calling everything that is visible important heritage assets, LOL, which they are not always, and stop placing nonsense restrictions. The coastline will still be here long after mankind has destroyed itself. The whole thing is a sham to make the rich even richer and more powerful. It is time to make a stand against the ruling elite. The ultimate power is with the people when all together, if only we hadn't all been softened up to behave like flipping robots, some.
