I thought this article could be of interest to treasure hunters, especially metal detectorists finding trove of coins.

Good info Cyber but the guy is wrong on several points to name a few

The earliest date of deposit for a coin hoard in what is now the continental United
States is 1631.5 Coin hoards sensu stricto (i.e., not including finds of paper money)

The oldest coin cache found in the US was in 1974 on Padre Island it was 2 and 4 reale coins from the 1553 wrecks. Probably hid by a group of early 1800 beachcombers working the wrecks.

are found in the continental United States at the rate of about three every year.6 In
England and Wales, by contrast, coin hoards are found at the rate of twenty to forty
every year.7 England and Wales have a much smaller population and area, but that
area has used coinage for two millennia.

There is 25 or more nice cache found in the US each year the difference is hunters in the US do not report them.

It's sorta Mute if the coins or Goods are over 50 years old and found on Federal or State lands.

Check out the last interpretations of the 1906 Antuiquties Law.

Any thing over 50 years old is theres.

"antiquity" is defined by law.

To be considered an antique in the trade it must be 100 years old but the  1906 Antiquities Act claim anything over 5o years old is an antique

I see. But not all antiques carry archaeological value. Am I right?
