2 wagon loads of silver

(1/1)

stazi:
Has anyone ever heard the story of silver miners in East Tennessee that were called to the battle at sycamore shoals in Elizabethton, TN  who had been mining for several years and then suddenly were called to fight in the Civil War and had to leave there hard work behind. The story is told that they buried 2 Wagon loads of silver bars somewhere near the mine site. The story also says "NO SOUL survived to return" but the story was passed on by word of mouth to those who did survive but were never able to return or find the site... I live in this area and was told this story by my Dad and My Grandpa. They also told me of a time when hunters went up a creek and panned out what they thought was lead for their shotguns, but later found out they were shooting SILVER buck shot. I would love to hear if anyone has heard this story .

Hello Stazi

Have not heard the story. It might not have been the civil war but the war of independence?

You'll also probably find that the two wagons are actually tow crates of silver.

Hello Stazi, Thats the first time I've come across the story of the two wagon loads of silver you are talking about! Although it does sound a bit similar to other such tales. Some one gets called up for duty buries the treasure then never returns.
The fact that you live in the area is a good reason to look into this mystery a bit deeper. I would be panning out the creeks to se what was on offer, you mite get lucky with some buck shot.  8)
