Otwalkott, some day there will be legends about you. Believe it.

Some of them may make it back to this forum, too. You'd be wise to pay attention to warnings here. Treasure hunting is not for the brave and bold. Careful thinkers live to tell of their exploits over a quiet campfire.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

You asked for open advice and so you got it. Take it for what its worth especially if you have little to no experience as an outdoorsman or ever hunted or been hunted by big game. Im a survivalist some say raised by wolves, not really but it took years to master the woods, its not something you learn over night by reading a book.  Its a rather scary feeling that comes over you when your being stalked by something you cant see that could easily kill you and all you got on your side is a Bowie Knife, that was me at 16 by myself fishing a trout stream 3 miles back into no mans land, a young IDIOT thought I knew it all, yeah right Im lucky to be here today. Back then at that moment when I was about to be attacked I convinced myself that today was a good day to DIE and if not for some quick thinking it would have ! If you dont think of every thing possible that could happen and your not prepared you may say to your self , Today is good day to Die ! People dont go off into the wilderness thinking anything will happen thats the problem so when it does happen its too late. Another thing you should have with you when you go is parachute cord, if you dont have some get some. In Arizona the wild life will still be active even in the winter, the only reason you go in the winter is because the extreme desert heat during the rest of the year, but you will still have snakes, mountain lions, black bears, and wolves and they will be smelling you and anything you cook will bring them in, well it wont bring snakes or scorpions or fire ants in but either way dont fool yourself, you will be hunted !

Black Bear are Benign to the most parts.    Chuck a Rock at them and All but the most Will Scamper.

Mtn Kitties you just don't know about.

They May and May Not.

If Old, Hungry they could be a problem.

Temps in the fall could range from 25F in the mornings to 90 mid day.

Here at 4400ft NM, it's currently 45F in the mornings and 87Mid Day.

Tucson is 10F higher then Deming Here.   Phoenix area another 10F higher.
