New guy here. Had a chance to read some wonderful stuff over the years. I was wondering if anyone has studied Gengis Khan? I was lead to believe he was buried in a valley, then the valley flooded. Anyone have any links on this? Im just looking to research, I have no plans to leave the good ol USA anytime soon.

Genghis Khan asked to be buried without markings. After he died, his body was returned to Mongolia and presumably to his birthplace in the Khentii Aimag, where many assume he is buried somewhere close to the Onon River. According to legend, the funeral escort killed anyone and anything across their path, to conceal where he was finally buried. After the tomb was completed, the slaves who built it were massacred, and then the soldiers who killed them were also killed. The Genghis Khan Mausoleum is his memorial, but not his burial site. Folklore says that a river was diverted over his grave to make it impossible to find (the same manner of burial of Sumerian King Gilgamesh of Uruk). Other tales state that his grave was stampeded over by many horses, that trees were then planted over the site, and the permafrost also did its bit in the hiding of the burial site. The Erdeni Tobchi claims that Genghis Khan's coffin may have been empty when it arrived in Mongolia. Similarly, the Altan Tobchi  maintains that only his shirt, tent and boots were buried in the Ordos (Ratchnevsky. Tumbull  tells another legend according to which the grave was re-discovered 30 years after Genghis Khan's death. According to this tale, a young camel was buried with the Khan, and the camel's mother was later found weeping at the grave of its young.

What I read was on target to one of your stories. I usually read an authors entire works, and one of my favorite authors was Barry Saddler, a Green Beret. Knowing the company he kept, I feel he used such stories for his books. The fact that they were written in the 60's or 70's excludes modern day online information, which is flawed. I have since donated that book, but will acquire another copy to see where he lead us to believe this was. I do appreciate knowledge you guys have here, its very hard anymore to get good conversation. Thanks Seldom.

Im not the exploring type. But knew some guys a few years ago who was putting together a trip overseas to find some buried war spoils. With some of the new detecting means out there, it would pay a guy to who would travel to get in contact with this group. Im pretty happy not having to travel more than an hour one way to find my rocks. Seems every time I turn a corner here, I find something new. Love it.

Hello Casca

The history of Genghis Khan is amazing enough. The trouble with this type treasure legend is the vague information and a massive search area.

Casca

This is an interesting topic to research but as far as going looking not many will sign on. To many country's would get involved and if anything was found it would be in the courts for years.

I have read several accounts of his burial and think that the one were his grave was planted with trees is the most likely. Also Marko Polo  wrote some about the grave may be worth looking into

Hi All I recall the possibility of a very large treasure with the burial of Ghengis Khan
 Somewhere in the Gobi Dessert.
It seems quite reasonable, that this is true because of allthe raids that were carried out
during his rule, and the Idea that the treasure would remain with him in the afterlife Cool

casca I have look though my library and what little I have on Genghis Khan is all rehash of Marko Polo's writing's. I still think thats the place to start. I don't have a copy but will pick up one this week and see what he has to say.

Yeah Goldnboy there are several legends of treasure connected to Khan.
