Well Seldom, Ill make a call and see if a very wise friend I know has any answers. If he dont, he may know some who do. I will try to nail down a geographic area and time so it can be cross referenced and either a possible or eliminated. As you know history is written by the victor. Also we had the ones who came before us. Picking up a detector tomorrow who hoo, watch for pics of pulltabs....

Hello Casca

It may help you to hunt down a copy of an arabic manuscript called Al- Tawarikh it was written by Rashīd al-Dīn Fadhl-allāh Hamadānī (1247?1318)

It is the single most important historical source for the Il Khanate period, and for the Mongol empire as a whole. There is considerable references Gengis Khan.

I heard that there was several Americas searching for the burial site many years ago. I think project floundered by red tape and political interests.

There is no exact portrait of the man. By here is one generally accepted as an accurate depiction of him. There is a 15th century illustration of him becoming emperor. A map of his military movements. The location of his capital and A coin of the Mongol empire.

All of these little things may be of help.

Hardluck.

Finally chiming in here......I'm not sure how much faith I'd put in the Marco Polo texts (yes, he seems to have been pretty accurate, but he was still an outsider with no ties beyond trade).   The Arabic text angles seems like a good one to pursue.  Also Chinese texts if they can be found and shown to be reliable in the other particulars.  I also wouldn't discount any text that can be shown to originate in Northern India, southern Russia, Turkey, or extreme eastern Europe since he ruled from the Pacific to the Caspian Sea and his heirs pushed the empire as far as the banks of the Danube.      500 to 1500 square miles is still a whole lot of territory to work with, but the clues have to be out there.

The question I asked myself? Was he buried where he died? Or was he transported back to Mongolia. Im leaning on what is called Upper Mongolia now. If it were me, or my family, I would like to be buried with family, or close to family. I dont undertsand the family coulture back then, and not sure we really can. But I say upper mongolia. Now is he buried in a mountain, or a lake? Each is both strong and pleasing and symbols of power. I wonder what people see when they look at the mountain or lake, depending on what you believe.

Go Up Go Down

My friends who originally got me interested has got a case of treasure itis and clamed up. So pretty sure they working on something. Last I heard they were going to Africa to dig up old war treasure and munitions. So maybe they didnt come back, and maybe they did. My only source for any up to date info was on here. The ancient texts which can be found on line were very helpful. But one would have to go and live in Mongolia or where you think the treasure is to get an idea of the people, and listen to the stories of back then. I find the idea of transporting a body thousands of miles back home a gruesom task. The original story I heard I still think is the best story. But I havent aquired a copy of it, as its out of print. I gave my copy to a old friend who is busy starting up a farm. I will ask again and see if I can get the info back and post it here. Thanks for asking.
