Many other legends of lost gold exist in Cherokee country. One of the most widespread is a story about a cave filled with gold. Often called the Waterhouse Treasure, it was discovered by William Waterhouse in 1890. Reports of the cave were even printed in Chattanooga papers. "William Waterhouse, a young white farmer of Keith, Georgia...claims to have found a cave in the fastness of the mountains.." Ernest Andrews, who wrote "Georgia's Fabulous Treasure Hoards" claims to have found a Waterhouse family who owned a hotel in Cohutta, Georgia, a few miles east of Keith. He guesses that the cave would be located on Rocky Face, based on earlier research. This, by the way, would put it almost exactly in the middle of the old Cherokee gold fields.
Terry also wrote about in The search for Treasure #5
Anyone done any research on this one?

Hello halfdollar

I use various sources. Old newspapers, journals, books, magazines, private papers and local history societies. I have some valuable contacts all around the world and the internet with access to libraries and university libraries and contact details to archives. I have a very large library of historical books papers and charts. As I type this there is a very risk of an avalanche of books and documents. Cheesy

It did not happen overnight as it took a lot of years collecting and researching.

A valuable little treasure in itself.

Hardluck

Ain't that the truth LOL.
I have about 4000 books right now and figure 1500 of them are my treasure library. Less the 50 have the word treasure in the title, most or history's, and bio books with some old diarys

My wife is a bookseller. She calls them book-alanches. When she finds a particularly lovely book, she has a book-gasm. Booksellers are very, very odd.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
