Interesting Barton, thanks for sharing your ideas. Smiley

I can imagine the Jesuit order like many other religious orders would have a little arrogance because they believe or try to promote that God is on their side. Confidence in the success of your mission is paramount to achieving confidence of your followers. I can imagine they had every intention of taking over the region in a sense.

Using others methods that have proven to be successful is also just good sense. I consider the Spanish maps to be the GPS of their day. No compass, no roads, no help, a person needs something to guide them.

As far as death traps I still have yet to see one that convices me it's a real engineered death trap. Especially one thats still active after 400 years. Must have one hell of a trigger. If a person doesn't survey stability before digging then it's just lack of common sense in my opinion. If it's a real deathtrap built to only catch idiots well the desert probably already took care of them, especially in those times.

If you ask me it's a natural progression that many of these sites appear to be marked in the same fashion. If you look at any recent mining activity in the last 100 years its easy to spot from miles away especially in the desert. These guys were running multiman operations and had to be moving some serious dirt to amass all that gold. Overturned earth in the desert looks out of place because its not sun faded, and it's like a big neon sign saying mine here! You only needed a map to get withing viewing distance.

Each wave of gold hunters would look for those signs if they have any mining knowlege, and as we know it's usually easiest to find gold where someone else has. Now after a couple hundred years of fading it gets harder to tell and sometimes a site can go back to natural very quickly due to floods, vegetation or such. After 400 years you may never know anyone has ever dug there.

Just my 2cents

Hello All

There has been lively debates about Jesuits having treasure on several other forums. Topic is interesting as there is much history written out there about the Jesuits.

I think the answer lies some where in between.

There is a very old book I had found some where that tells of an interesting story about Jesuit treasure. But for the moment my poor old memory fails me.

Hardluck.  Huh?
