What would be good to have are photos of the area on the actual day to see if there was a cloud cover or not but where could one find that?

Hello Xavier

It would be nice but I do not think we would be lucky enough to find photographs of that time frame to work on.

The only photographs I have come across are below 1942 but that was not the year or day of the disappearance.

However If we can find ex personnel or surviving families of  who served at the base then perhaps we may get very lucky with a Photograph?

But that is a very long shot.

That photograph looks just like Dakar Senegal. That would make them about 90 years old still very possible to find them but where should one start looking in the online telephone directory?   What language do they speak in Liberia French, English?

Hello Xavier

There is a few ways we could look for leads in this story,

1. Look at locating ex air force and military personnel who was stationed there or their descendants.Who may have photographs of the base taken in the final days of the air base before closure.

2. There may be a historical book written about the history of the air base somewhere which might have interesting photographs.

3. The could possibly be some surviving records in Liberia itself. However it must be understood much of its archives and history has been lost due to the disastrous civil war they had recently. War crime trials are being held at this very moment.

I wonder if they don't need a printing press technician over in Liberia would be a dam good reason to go over there and have a look around the place don't you think? Internet is good but very limited when it comes to communicating with people who do not have access to it or that are illiterate. Not to mention the fact that I'm longing for a new adventure and any bad reason sounds good enough to me. Will look into it  :Smiley

Hello All

Xavier: It might save you a unnecessary trip for information. The national museum of Liberia in Monrovia has may still have surviving copies of the Liberian Herald dating back to 1946. There might be reports from the provinces of the aircraft not reported by the foreign press.

The National Museum of Liberia was badly damaged and looted during the Liberian civil war. But it might be still possible to make contact with the museum.

Another tactic is to contact the present Newspapers as a "Historian" researching the fate of the aircraft. It would not be advisable to mention the "cargo" As it could unleash a whole host of scam artists claiming to have information for the right price.
