I find this topic fascinating. i lived in Liberia during the late 60's and 70's and know the bush conditions well (we lived in the middle of nowhere on an iron ore mine) . If an aircraft crashed anywhere it would be extremely difiicult to find using modern technology let alone in 1945 when resources were simpler. I recall in the rainy season the rain storms were unlike anything I had ever experienced before or since and made travel on the ground, let alone in the air, a challenge. Has anyone discovered anymore information relating to how the search was implemented?

Hello hallsenna

 Welcome

Thank you for the interesting post. The iron ore mines were at was they in the north of Monrovia?

Have you ever been down to the cape Vidal area? I bet it was an amazing place to see.

The research is at a standstill at the moment as I tried to recruit some useful contacts in Liberian newspapers  but unfortunately they have proven to be uninterested. There is a possibility of surviving newspapers stories regarding the crash that may of survived the civil war.

Hi Hallsenna

I was in Ghana about four years ago and got to see some vegetation and rain, quite impressive stuff LOL I should think that even if you were on top of the wreck that you would not be able to see it with all the vegetation but it shall be found some day.

I've also been following, this, makes me want to get in the Landy and go exploring!

My Father was stationed on the Gold Coast as the surgeon during that time, He told me quite a few stories unfortunately this one never came up and he passed away not too long ago, time seems to be against finding this one.

Hello charleskerr

Thank you and everyone else for interest and comments.

I never thought I have the amount of interest shown when I first posted this story. It was the contribution of others that made this story into the great intriguing mystery it is.

Sadly your comments on the successes of solving  the mystery is likely to be true. As time has and still is working against this story.

I tried numerous times to get access surviving newspaper records from Monrovia that was not destroyed in their civil war, and to raise interest the Media in Liberia with the story.

Every contact made in Liberia has been disappointing.

However that is the lot of a researcher of treasure legends.

Go Up Go Down

Hi Hardluck

The only way that I can see to get more information is to go on site and speak to the locals as I'm sure that there will be quite a few still alive today from that period or at least stories passed on. The other thing is that we don't really know if it ever went down nor where. It could very well be that it went down near Ghana or even the Ivory Coast not to mention that it could have gone down in the ocean this is why we need to find out more about it's last known location and we have nothing on that just that it left from Monrovia.

All the  best
Xavier

Hello Xavier

That is so true. We do not know for sure the aircraft crashed in Liberia or Ghana or in the ocean itself. And that is the problem the search size of the search area just like it was back then as it is now.

It would make a great trip starting from Liberia going all the way to Ghana and I don't think that it would be all that expensive if you can ruff it up a bit but it would be time consumming going from town to town speaking to the locals I recone two years would be about right if you want to do an in-depth survey but boy what an adventure it would be.  I'm starting to like this idea LOL
