Sorry I am late to the dance, don't have a lot to add other than this is a real deal not a made up story.  I fail to see any link to Victorio peak, and considering the stories that peak was emptied by govt agencies, would not be worth risking prison time over anyway.  Besides, a mine can not be very well hauled away while a treasure could.

PS an afterthought here, yes a lot of exaggeration has gone on with the re-telling of old treasure stories, but consider this; those Spanish treasure fleets carrying ship loads of silver and gold obtained most of it from mines, and many of those mines are lost today.  Every now and then one is found, but so far as I know the LaRue mine has not - yet!
