Hardluck, SF directory was a cool discovery. I checked the census records & didn't see any of the familiar names in the 1900 census - anywhere - I'd guess the census takers missed them so hard to say regarding the quake and fire. I couldn't find a complete list of people who perished, but in 1910, only Romulus was listed in the census & living in Alameda, an island city in the SF Bay. Sue
