Hello Victorio Peak

Thank you again for the interesting post. thanks for the intriguing Photograph. Personnel Jewelery has turned up of Maximilian as you can see by earlier posts in this topic as a fact.

Maximilian did not have a regal crown of Mexico as there was no line of royal succession to start with. However it was possible that Maximilien's brother the Emperor of the Austrian empire loaned items of the Austrian crown Jewels for his brothers coronation in Mexico.

In hunting down early pictures or illustrations of the Austrian Crown Jewel's we might be able to confirm the identity of the this crown that looks more like a tiara.

Hardluck.

Well that sounds like a plan.  I did my best just Googling around for a photo but no luck.  At least, one that matches this photo and Ova's description.  I firmly believe the crown and the trunk that it was placed in is still stashed and never found.  Unfortunately,  finding it would be a needle in a haystack.  Caballo Mountains is a very big place.

Please post anything that may shed light if you come across it.  Thank you for your interest.

cheers,

-alex

It really sounds to me that if we take the Noss family, Bernie Saminego, and Will Dagats statements at face value, the treasure could have been a conglomeration from several parties. Perhaps this lends some credence to the Victorio raiding cache theory?

Very interesting info.

Hmmmm.....the topic may have gone cold, but the new post by Autofull with information about the apparent origin of the crown may be enough to spark some renewed interest.  We know Maximillian was Austrian and Carlota was Belgian.  If the crown is Russian as stated by Autofull, what is it's connection to a French arranged puppet Empire of Mexico?   Since this was a new empire, there would have been no existing crown jewels for Maximillian and Carlota to "inherit" when the assumed their positions.  As to the photo not matching the crown seen in pictures of Carlota, is it not possible that there could have been multiple crowns/tiaras made for her to wear depending upon the occasion?   That seems to have been a rather common practice.  And if that is the case, there may be documentation showing this crown to either have been a gift OR that it was ordered from a Russian manufacturer.   Even if Dr Noss did burn a box load of "European mail", there may still be copies of the correspondence in Europe.

The trail is cold but not necessarily frozen.
