some more info to "cassandra, cpt mcrae and when he lost the ship to edward england

mcrae gets his orders 19th apr 1720 to make to juanna, to pick up and sign for a package from a mr benjamin longways.
upon sailing, cassandra had 51 souls all told officers and seamen. plus 6 passengers. one of whom was the cause of mcrae having to visit edward england aboard his now ex cassandra.it was not just purely to get a ride home.

the name of the ostend ship in all this was the "van weiland"

mcrae knew edward england when england was 1st mate on "lady alice" mcrae was with cpt wraxel in the west indies, they met at kingston, jamaica.

also out of curiosity if a jewel in 1720 is worth £350,000 what would the value of it be in todays terms?

and, in the storys that float about on this occurance with the cassandra and england, there is mention of a one legged pirate who stuck up for mcrae when he went to deal with the pirates...his name was jimmy ward...originally a cook aboard the "pembroke castle" it transpires that mcrae helped him out years ago in honduras when 5 drunk spanish were attacking him.

the question i know have is the elusive john taylor...was he actually john taylor or was he tom burke?

viceroy goa ericeira had commenced building the fort of capora, 1717.
(had he a cross he was saving for it? rather than give it to his successor who completed it in his admistration?)

the fortress of cabo is estimated to be approx 1540
the chapel eventually built within it was to the blessed virgin mary
under the invocution of "nossa senhora de cabo" (where the ships name originated?)or has as story progresses through time been blended?

hi cptevil,
thanks for the link, as far as i am aware, it gives an account of her living with a pirate, and amongst pirates, her relationship with him if you could call it that....but in the end they became close.she left mauritius right after he was hanged and moved back to france.
the author wrote it from papers found in france i think, and put it more or less in the orginal writers words , plus the author used the owners name, as it was her story.
it is only published in german at the moment.recently released.

At a guess, about 3,700,000. More information on the Jewel would be usefull.

since originally reading this subject and throughout this whole topic no one has ever mentioned the american Robert Graf? why? am i missing something? was he not the other main hunter and who also helped finance cruise/wilkins for a while til they went seperate ways and then took turns with the license permit from the seychelles government to hunt?
is Robert Graf still active with this hunt? or for that matter another younger female hunter who pops up here and other sites?
