I've seen the movie a couple times and unlike many movies today- the producer seems to have made a great effort to stick with the facts and not embellish the story. These days- many a producer wants to rewrite history based on their perception - not facts.

Given the history - how in the world did they manage to lose the site in the first place?

Steve

Sometimes in the heat of battle, the place is overlooked or forgotten.  The Army investigated the claims by York and his comrades and concluded that York's statements were actually on the modest side...that he did perform feats of outstanding bravery on the battlefield.  Luckily, his officers kept good records and diaries from which the researchers were able to draw from. The battle site will be officially marked by the French government next October with a monument.

By the way, the real Alvin C. York approved the choice of Gary Cooper to play York in the movie, even though Cooper was 45 at the time the movie was ready to be filmed.  The role won Cooper the Academy Award in 1941.

Best Regards and Happy New Year,
Steve Warren

Hey Guys and Gals,

Even more info on the way about the York battlefield.  A Colonel in the U.S. Army claims he found the battlefield and it is several hundred yards away from where the other researchers claim it is.  Will try to have it posted to the CBNNews.com site by the end of the week and will post a link here as well.

Best Regards,
Steve
