I wish I would have had a little more time to hang out that trip. It was a quick fly down turn around drive back. I was definitely hitting the sweet tea pretty hard the whole way Smiley

I totally agree that doing ones own research is invaluable. The more a person researches the better chance they will be close right from the start.

I'm speculating that since they revisited the cache several times to check on it that it must lie reasonably close to the Nolan main route if any records or maps show it. That might narrow the search points down a bit. It must have been a fairly well defined trail at some point.

think of how much loot they had, it cant be too easy to move it around ! ? then think where is a good place to hide it. Old maps and Info combined with the modern Insight could be key here,  best of luck on this one   Cool

very cool!  I did have a chance to pick up his book at a local library, and do some more reading...have not found much more on verifying the story.

its pretty hard to find information on the goings ons in that time and area...it definitely had a reputation for being a haven for thieves, and there was a lot of that going on back in those days in that area, on the river particularly...

still working on this one, just a little limited on time(work is picking up some, thank God!) and i think some more local research is needed to verify some of the details

thanks

Hello Foolsgold.

Have you found out more on the story?

Perhaps old newspapers or genealogical records might help?

Hardluck.

If the area is known as a bit of a hold up haven in the olden days, its probably worth while just checking out any likely stash spots. Never know what you may find out there! Good luck  Cool

Hello Goldnboy

Its probably not a bad idea. Many times caches are found on chance and not by design.

Hardluck.

Yea that's what i was thinking, and if there is some hidden caches in the area it will be good to have been out there a few times. So you get to know the area and likely places to ditch the loot. Also if you have searched an area you can start to rule it out and go on with the hunt elsewhere

thank you sir!

well, i have been through my online source of newspaper archives, over 70 lousiana newspapers, french and english both, looking for the key dates(1812, 1813, 1898) checked for papers in the san antonio area around the 1812-1813's for anything dealing with the stolen goods, and the jasper area as well for the same key dates, all with no luck.

this was using the wiwkipedia list of online newspaper archives...any other sources i could check?

i did find some papers from the dates, and read through them, finding no information.

would also like to check into some military history, and see if any of these guys show up...i know that may be difficult, being from the time it is, i can imagine not too many clear records are still around

any ideas on searching that out?

thanks!
