Looks like the courts ruled against Nathan Smith after several experts said that his google pictures showed nothing to suggest he had spotted a ship, other witnesses proved that the technology he used to show gold and silver was buried was imposable using the detectors he had available.
In my opinion the ship and maybe the treasure is somewhere in the area, my problem is with the legend and the nonsense writers have add over the years.
Most of the retelling over the last 30 years claim that the ship was to rendezvous with others in Galveston Bay. What writer add this piece of info knew little of the history of the gulf coast. Lafitte is rumored to have left the island in April of 1822 but many of his men were still around and taking ships plus the the Spanish probably had no knowledge that Lafitte had left and would avoid the Island at all cost.
