Corporate investigations:
Hello Arfieboy

There is a similar Rock pen story South of the Border in Mexico. In fact near Durango Mexico. I am curious to see if there is a connection?

The story goes some bandits was very successful over time and they was eventually hunted down by Federal troops and most of them killed. However before this happened they had buried their treasure in a cave. One of the surviving bandits managed to pass on directions where to find this cave. it was allegedly near some stone corrals where they has the last fight with government troops. In around 1900 there was claims of a discovery where the Mexican troops were sent to restore order. However the original alleged discoverers disappeared. was the treasure discovered or all it was a hoax? strange enough there is an alleged descendant today inquiring about old names of places that do not exist anymore. I have a copy of part of the letter he wanted to find out the modern place name to the name mentioned in the old letter.

I was curious to see if there was connection between the two legends because of the stone corrals?

Stone corrals figure into at least a dozen legends that I have in my files they are not that uncommon.

Thanks Corp and Seldom!  More information for the speculative mind!  Because of the number of stories about stone corrals it will be harder to ever dig any truth out of them or link them together.     [wise]

The problem with most treasure stories is that they have been told and retold dozens of time before they get to us. With each retelling things get add or left out

BitburgAggie_7377:
It also doesn't help any that rock pens aren't really uncommon.    I would say that in most cases where the side with the treasure was holed up inside rock pens it is more likely that they used existing rock pens or ruins of old buildings rather than wasting precious time and energy constructing new ones.  (not saying that hasty repair or reinforcement wasn't done).   Of course, it makes for a better story if the soon to be doomed had to build the walls they hid behind.
