The Treasure of Genghis Khan

Hi Everyone-
I watched a movie a couple weeks ago about Genghis Khan and his hordes. It was pretty obvious he amassed a huge treasure trove from his plunderings across Asia. Anyone know if they ever found any of it? Or is this still a legendary treasure yet to be discovered? You don't hear much about this one since it's on the other side of the world. Perhaps some of the more knowledgable people familiar with this treasure will be willing to update us.

the treasure of Geghis Kahn is very famous amongst European treasure hunters and has been searched for for centuries - however with no success so far. It still has to be found. It said to be located somewhere in Mngolia - this being a huge country.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. I doubt if many European treasure hunters have heard of Victorio Peak or Lost Dutchmans Mine. I just never of heard much of anything on Khan's treasure over here in the USA.

It was simply named "Genghis Khan". It had Omar Shariff starring in it and I think it was made in the 60's.

yes that's true. Many treasure stories are indeed national or even regional. While the lost Dutchman mine is still known amongst some European treasure hunters, Viktoria Peak for example is realy little known here.

The treasure of Genghis Kahn is actually his tomb. His golden casket rests upon 12 crowns of the kings he conquered. A wealthy Japaneese business man searched for Kahn's tomb using a new remote sensing technology thats also used for finding oil deposits. He thinks he found the tomb but the Mongolian govt. will not let him dig. Kahn is considered an idol to the Mongols.

I threw the idea, out there, about a month ago and got no discussion.... this is like the re-invention of the wheel! [funny]
My impression, is that after Jengish Khan died, the horde was split among his decendents (those strong enough to survive) and all the sub-chiefs, I doubt if much was buried with him other than what they considered due a great leader. Probably none was buried in eastern Europe, but it makes a good story.
There was a tomb opened in Mongolia, a few years ago, and there was some speculation that it was the tomb of Jengish Khan, because it is reputed that these great leaders were buried in secret, partly to foil tomb robbers. (Khan is a Persian term, I believe.)
It was spectacular, and spectacularly deep! They had a very large, modern, hydraulic, backhoe, to do excavation. It was so deep, the backhoe was working down in the hole. They recovered a number of sacrificed horses, on top of the tomb, that had a large amount of gold.... the tomb itself, I do not recall. The whole thing was on film and should be out there..... if it is possible to find. [wise]
