Hi all,

We are now preparing and testing a WiFi link between the User Interface and the PPM control unit.
This will give the following advantages:
- For an underwater surveys system, to suppress the cable between the laptop and the PPM thus, allowing to put the laptop inside the cabin of the boat in the shade and away from water splashes.
- For an underground survey system, to allow a double operator survey with one operator comfortably sitting in his car with the PC control and the second operator walking the survey lines of the grid.

While you're tinkering, look into a BlueTooth interface to allow wireless headphones and a phone link. You can program your system to allow a temporary disconnect to answer your phone in the field. Not so good underwater, though.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

I prefered WiFi against Bluetooth for two reasons:
1. All laptops are equipped with WiFi in standard.
2. WiFi has a much larger range than Bluetooth. I hope to be able to make a whole underground survey with a laptop staying in a fixed position while the PPM is walked over the survey lines.
