Welcome from Perth. To be frank, those rocks look rather natural. Looks like lava formation to me. Can you see any tool marks on them?

thanks for ur replies. they have been cut. you can see chizzel marks on them up close. there are also markings in rocks around them.

Now that is interesting. It looks like a simple trail marker made by the Boy Scouts. That happens to be one of the common trail markers used by them when they play their trail blazing games. It means not to go that way. If you found this in Oz, chances are it is a Girl Guide or Boy Scout symbol unless there happens to be more and varied symbols in the area.
