Yes, some of the Google stuff is 6 to 9 years old, or older, the rest is about 3 yrs old and fairly good resolution. With updated Earth Viewer, I can get down to 200 feet above ground surface, before it starts to lose definition. Some times its closer to 150 feet.
I had some saved pics of what I thought was a building, on a remote gold creek, taken with the old viewer.... with the new viewer, I could see a pickup and a van or trailer! Same earth shot, different viewer. Those vehicles belonged to a group doing a technical survey of a mineral claim, 6 years ago! Looks like they are still sitting!
I prefer the viewables from a Canadian map and satellite group, it has some advantages and some disadvantages and uses some different satellites. I will have to look up the name and address and post it. You don't need a special viewer, either.
