Following the request for MDN I will try to inform you about the charts of Cassini. All d' access the charts of Cassini which date beginning from the 18th century are the true first charts which draws up a complete and precise cartography of France. Here a bond d' a site on which you will be able to consult them:

before consulting them, better is worth to take note of the legend of these charts:

because they are written as old French and certain letters differ from our modern alphabet. The names of certain cities, villages or localities perhaps changed while keeping the same ethymology. L' interest of these charts is that l' one can superimpose them on our current charts allowing to better include/understand the past of certain places. For that there exists a formidable tool which is the site of l' IGN (French national geographical institute):

which makes it possible to consult and superimpose various layers of recent charts (IGN), of sights sattellites and of charts of Cassini on all France and the departments d' overseas. Here a coarse example of the operation of this tool: I want to go in Marly located in the north of France, I connect myself on the site: {alt} I choose France metropolis and I click on the chart of France, in the common box I type Marly and I click on " J' there vais" {alt}, there are several communes which names Marly and l' is proposed to me; obtion of various departments, I choose Northern Marly 59 (here the chart of the various French departments) {alt} {alt}, a satellite sight with a Red Cross on the sought zone appears then, on the right there is l' tool zoom (to choose the 1/32000 because the charts of Cassini do not go beyond that. On the left there are the various sights that l' one can activate or decontaminate or superimpose thanks to the cursor of transparency. I council to choose l' obption with l' hydrography in intensified brightness because the rivers will help us to locate us between the modern sights and the charts of Cassini even if the courses d' water one sometimes diverted their natural courses. {alt} now j' activate sight IGN current chart and I decontaminate the sight sattellite {alt} then j' activate the sight chart of Cassini and I decontaminate chart IGN {alt} to note that the town of Marly s' Marlis called formerly, now I reactivate the three sights and I regulate the transparency so as to be able to read information of the three sights, one will also nottera that certain rivers deviated: {alt}. Here are for this tutorial, j' hope to have been most clearly possible and that will inform MDN in its search and thank you with all those which had patience to read me. @+Zamac
