Only a idiot would sell a genuine treasure map if one existed.   Unless we're talking about a movie or a novel, treasure maps for sale exist for the sole purpose of parting gullible people from their money.   The only treasure to be found through the map is the coins that line the sellers pocket from selling the map (unless you're philosophical enough to consider the adventure of chasing a wild goose a treasure in and of itself)......And the average book of treasure signs is just about as valuable as the average treasure map (and for the same reasons).

IF I had a genuine map OR IF I had a genuine log of treasure signs for a specific treasure, I guarantee I would not sell either until after I'd recovered all the loot---and neither would any of you (and if you would, you're probably in the wrong hobby)

Treasure maps seem to be an invention of the 20th century. There is little or no documentation of TMap's before 1920 when they became useful in scam's.
Signs can be traced back to Dobie who published the first list in the 1930's but did not take off till the treasure craze of the 60's.
Both signs and maps became very popular during poor economic time by want to be treasure hunters to lazy to do the work involved and looking for a short cut.
