My definitions book has your letters together in lower case but capitalized separately! I think it might means Reales Spanish or South down if you were to draw the n,s,e,w on the rock south would be down also I dont think anyone other than conquistadors would be likely to make such good detailed capital letters. I think they wanted people to think that it was just someones initals that may be why they added the S. Its worth mentioning the that the letters look like the ones in my treasure book symbols and deffinitions book! I think you may be onto something Haven let me know how it goes and what you find k.i.t "Spainard"

Why would you want to  write n s e w on it and as Seldom has already said the spanish word for silver is plata
and if the letters were A & E would that be short for reales,
your text seems to have a slight flaw in it.
Everyone who talks about signs and maps seem to make it up as they go along and they have to complicate things
why can't it just be something simple. everyone see's marks on a tree or a rock and they want it to meen something
so badly that they rely on guess work and fantasy and forget the facts,
It's so embaressing to read some of the things i've seen on forums , It would be a bad thing to mention these thinga
in front of psych doctors coz i think they would be commited, and put into a nut house and never get out.

Haven, if you really want to tie this to treasure, I suggest you forget all about Spanish treasure and instead concentrate on searching local history for any one who might have had the initials R.S.    Chances are he just wanted to mark his property or the initials of his girlfriend....but then again, you might find out that RS might have hidden some money somewhere.  I doubt it's near those initials, but they could still be the jumping off point for a true treasure hunt.
